Retro expo at the Teylers Museum, Haarlem

During a recent customer visit in Amsterdam, I noticed a poster advertising a very interesting exposition at the Teylers Museum in Haarlem, the Netherlands: The expo, “Gadgets en Games – Van vroeger en nu”, which is translated in English “Gadgets and Games – Then and now” looked liked just the thing for a retro collector like me.
Although it was a 200 km drive from where I live, we decided to turn it into a family day out last Saturday, with the morning and early afternoon at the museum and then an afternoon of shopping in the beautiful town of Haarlem.

The Teylers Museum, apart from the temporary expo, features an awesome collection of 17th and 18th century scientific objects – just the thing for me I’d say!  There was even an old 19th (!!) century synthesizer on display!

The kids loved the museum, and the treasure hunt made it all the more fun.
Of course the highlight for me was the Gadgets & Games expo itself.  Old typewriters, Hoovers of days gone by, old motorcycles and… Commodores and consoles!  Everyone loved playing games on the C64, the Atari 2600, the NES, and I was more than happy to provide some extra background info to some of the visitors on the items on display.
A superb exhibition (we need more of these!) and a great and fun visit to Haarlem!
